The wizard: answering criteria

Laatste update: 02/11/2026

The wizard is where the work happens. You open a theme and work through the criteria, each with one or more statements below it. In total, there are 67 criteria with 142 statements; these statements are exactly what appears on the official verification form.

Where to find it

  1. On the dashboard, click on a theme card.
  2. The first criterion that hasn’t been completed yet will be open.
  3. At the bottom, use Done — back to overview to return to the dashboard.

How to answer

Each statement has actual answer buttons, not a free text field where you have to make something up.

TypeHow it works
Yes / No / To check110 statements. To check resets the answer to open, even if you already chose yes or no.
Selection list14 statements with a fixed list, in Dutch.
Number or percentage18 statements. You enter your own figure and the module tells you which official bracket it falls into.
Not applicableOnly where officially permitted, or where it follows from your profile. Includes a mandatory field for the reason.

Under each statement, there is a comment field for an explanation or reference. You can expand the original English text from the decision, along with what an auditor wants to see.

Automatically filled in

Some statements are immediately set to In order — automatic, including the source: your published footprint, or your EMAS/ISO registration. You can always override this yourself using Adjust. Two things to know: automatic only works with a published year, and where a document is mandatory, a statement won’t show as ‘in order’ until that evidence is provided.

For some statements, you’ll get a hint from an external source: your water hardness according to the VMM based on your municipality, a green power check at the VREG based on your EAN, or a link to the ‘groenblauwpeil’ (green-blue level) of your address. These hints don’t fill anything in; they help you find the right answer.

Two cases you will definitely encounter. For 5.1, how often you monitor your consumption, the platform fills in the answer based on your footprint: monthly figures result in ‘monthly’, only annual figures result in ‘annually’. The explanation states what this is based on, and that waste and chemical products are not included; you check those yourself. 5.2, the biennial reporting to the competent authority, only gets a ‘yes’ once you have entered your application date. See The dashboard.

Under criterion 1, you’ll find the worksheet with your objectives. Statements 1.3 and 1.4 are not automatically checked off from there: you do that yourself, with Confirm as answer to 1.3 and 1.4. See Worksheets and checklists.

A Green Key report as a starting point

If you already have a Green Key audit report, upload it to your documents. The platform recognizes the report and the Green Key version itself, and prepares an explanation from that report for the corresponding EU statements. This happens during upload, and again if your EU Ecolabel trajectory is opened later.

Your answer itself does not change. You will see text in the comment field that you didn’t type yourself, in a block starting with a marker like [Green Key gk2022 4.1]: the Green Key version and the criterion number. If you adjust that block, your version will remain, even if the report is read again later. If you leave it untouched, it will be replaced during a new reading. Reading it twice does not result in duplicate text.

In the document file, you can see how many criteria were read from the report, for example “Green Key report read: 123 criteria, 90 with yes”.

Text suggestions

For sixteen statements, we have prepared text — a maintenance program, a towel policy, a temperature policy, guest information about water hardness. This text is built from your own data, so there are no generalities where a figure can be shown. You review them, adjust what is incorrect, and click Confirm as answer. This fills in the answer and the text itself serves as evidence. You can still adjust or regenerate them later.

Gatekeeper questions

Some questions determine whether the rest still makes sense. If you answer that you have no outdoor heating, the follow-up questions about it will disappear. This works both ways: if you change your answer, they will return.

Per reporting year

Your answers belong to a reporting year. This means that a renewal next year doesn’t start with an empty file, and your previous application remains as you submitted it.

Next to a criterion, you’ll sometimes see two small icons: a question mark leading to the background page about that theme on our site, and a chat icon leading to the forum. If the link is missing, the icon won’t appear.
