Energy criteria for labels

Laatste update: 09/06/2026

Introduction

Below are the simplified energy criteria currently used for certification. You will undoubtedly notice that no criteria are imposed in connection with maximum energy consumption.

There are also no energy label criteria imposed for your accommodation (A-G). For small lodgings (<500 m²), Flemish legislation only states that an EPC or EPC NR must be made when the accommodation is transferred. This is not necessary for the operation itself.

For larger lodgings (>500 m²), it is. Then we are talking about an EPC/NR. That is a totally different EPC than for houses (residential buildings). With EPC/NR (non-residential), the main focus is on the actual consumption and then specifically on the part that is generated locally from renewable sources. Currently, it is only mandatory to have an EPC/NR, with no minimum criteria. From Jan. 1, 2030, you must achieve at least a label E. This means that by then you must generate at least 5% of your energy locally and sustainably yourself.

The criteria below therefore certainly become feasible for a lot of lodgings. They set us on the path to sustainable operation. The annual improvement trajectories help us take ever more sustainable steps. Meanwhile, we are working on a tool based on the official EPC/NR that will help us compare and improve.

Energy criteria for sustainability certification

Below is a list of simplified criteria imposed in the context of energy. You must meet at least all the mandatory criteria and you must achieve a minimum number of optional criteria. For the detailed criteria, please refer to the specific pages around the certification processes.
