All terms and abbreviations found in the tools, in plain language.<\/p>\n\n

Energy and consumption<\/h2>\n\n
Term<\/th>Meaning<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
kWh<\/td>Kilowatt-hour, the unit of energy. Everything is converted to this so you can add different sources together.<\/td><\/tr>
Feed-in<\/td>The electricity your solar panels return to the grid because you aren’t using it yourself at that moment.<\/td><\/tr>
SCOP<\/td>Seasonal Coefficient of Performance of a heat pump: how much heat it delivers on average over a year per unit of electricity. SCOP 4 means 4 kWh of heat per 1 kWh of electricity.<\/td><\/tr>
GO<\/td>Guarantee of Origin. A certificate proving that as much renewable electricity was generated as you consumed.<\/td><\/tr>
EAN number<\/td>The unique number for your electricity or gas connection. Found on your invoice and on the meter.<\/td><\/tr>
Heat pump<\/td>Device that extracts heat from air, water, or soil using electricity. Delivers more heat than the electricity it consumes.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n

CO\u2082<\/h2>\n\n
Term<\/th>Meaning<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
CO\u2082e<\/td>CO\u2082 equivalent. Other greenhouse gases are converted to the amount of CO\u2082 with the same effect.<\/td><\/tr>
Scope 1<\/td>Direct emissions from what you burn yourself: gas, heating oil, pellets.<\/td><\/tr>
Scope 2<\/td>Indirect emissions from the energy you purchase, mainly electricity.<\/td><\/tr>
Scope 3<\/td>All other emissions in your chain, from purchasing to your guests’ travel. Not included in your footprint.<\/td><\/tr>
Emission factor<\/td>How much CO\u2082 is released per unit of fuel or electricity.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n

Comparing<\/h2>\n\n
Term<\/th>Meaning<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
pppn<\/td>Per person per night. Your consumption divided by your person-nights.<\/td><\/tr>
rpn<\/td>Per room per night. Your consumption divided by your room-nights.<\/td><\/tr>
Room-nights<\/td>Number of occupied rooms multiplied by the number of nights.<\/td><\/tr>
Person-nights<\/td>Number of guests multiplied by the number of nights they stayed.<\/td><\/tr>
Benchmark<\/td>The anonymous comparison with accommodations similar to yours.<\/td><\/tr>
Percentile<\/td>What percentage of comparable accommodations are performing worse than you. High is always good.<\/td><\/tr>
HCMI<\/td>International method for measuring and comparing the consumption of accommodations.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n

Labels and certification<\/h2>\n\n

EU Ecolabel<\/td>European environmental label, also for tourist accommodations.<\/td><\/tr>
Green Key<\/td>International sustainability label for accommodations and catering.<\/td><\/tr>
Certification<\/td>The process to obtain a label, including evidence and inspection.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n

Sources and systems<\/h2>\n\n
Term<\/th>Meaning<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
TVL<\/td>Visit Flanders (Toerisme Vlaanderen), which recognizes accommodations. Recognition is required for publication.<\/td><\/tr>
Statbel<\/td>The Belgian statistics office, where you report your accommodation figures.<\/td><\/tr>
Mijn Fluvius<\/td>The grid operator’s customer portal containing your consumption and EAN.<\/td><\/tr>
EnergyID<\/td>Platform where you collect your consumption data and from which we can automatically retrieve it.<\/td><\/tr>
EPC\/NR<\/td>Energy Performance Certificate for non-residential buildings.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n
